Skyler Genest began his career in Law Enforcement in 2005 when he joined the Police Department of the University of Vermont, located in the City of Burlington. He was appointed to Sergeant in command of dayshift operations in 2009, and in 2012 he was appointed to the department’s only Detective position; responsible for all significant criminal investigations. Skyler has been an active member of the Vermont Army National Guard since 2007 and he currently serves as a Sergeant First Class in the 172nd Law Enforcement Detachment.Skyler was hired by the State of Vermont Department of Liquor and Lottery as a Liquor Investigator in May 2013. His responsibilities included an investigative focus of regulatory violations as well as liquor and criminal statutes. In August 2017, Skyler was appointed as Chief and assigned as the Director of the Compliance and Enforcement Division; responsible for the coordination of 14 liquor investigators statewide. Then, in 2020, Skyler was promoted to the Senior Director of Licnesee Operations with oversight of the Offices of Compliance and Enforcement, Licensing, Education, and Lottery Security. Skyler continues to innovate in the area of liquor and lottery enforcement by placing a strong emphasis on intelligence-based policing and leveraging technology to modernize the regulatory environment.
